Do you like writing git commit messages? Do you like commenting your code?
It is super helpful to provide descriptive git commit messages. It’s not just for you but for other developers as well.
When you comment the code it’s always good to start with why. When you add your reasons why a piece of code is doing something and you include your assumptions your future self will thank you for that and also your colleagues that you work (will) work with.
Actually if you start with a comment and explain what you want to achieve and have copilot installed it will generate that code for you. Super cool.
We find it easier when you write the comment in the code and then copy and paste that message into the git commit message box later rather than trying to explain what you’ve done. When you’re typing into your IDE it’s great. You’re’ in flow state and know how to navigate that and there’s no context switching. That’s reason I suppose that it’s easier to do it that way.
