You’ve just upgraded to Claude Max, excited to try the Opus model… but it’s not showing up. Frustrating, right? Don’t worry – this is a common issue, and the fix is usually simple.

Here’s how to get Opus to show up after upgrading to Claude Max.

1. Re-authenticate Your Account

After upgrading, you need to refresh your session so Claude recognizes your new plan.

  • Type /login in the claude code chat interface you’re using.
  • Follow the prompts to log in again. It should open a browser window.
  • This step updates your authentication and unlocks access to Max features.

2. Check Available Models

Once logged in again:

  • Type /model
  • You should now see Opus listed along with Sonnet and Haiku. Opus is available for Max plan users.

If Opus still doesn’t appear, continue to the next steps.

3. Refresh or Restart

Depending on the platform you’re using (Claude.ai, Slack, Discord, etc.):

  • Refresh the page or restart the app.
  • If on a browser, clear your cache and cookies, then try logging in again.

4. Verify Your Subscription

Head over to https://claude.ai/upgrade and check:

  • Your plan status – does it say Claude Pro/Max?
  • Payment status – did the charge go through?
  • If it’s stuck in a pending or failed state, the Opus model won’t unlock.

5. Still Not Working?

Sometimes there’s a short delay (5–20 minutes) between payment processing and feature activation.

If everything seems right but it’s still not working, reach out to Claude’s support team to investigate further.
